Vergennes - The smallest city in America! And older, by charter, than Boston.

Vergennes was chartered over 200 years ago, in 1788. Ethan Allen, the legendary Vermont hero, expected Vergennes would become a thriving metropolis. but hank heavens this has not happened.

Tiny Vergennes (1.8 square miles) remains one of the most beautiful areas for recreation in all of Vermont. From Memorial Park in the center of the City to Bixby Library; from the Vergennes Waterfalls to all the performances at the renovated Opera House - the City is alive with things to see and do.
